Nanaimo Acupuncture is looking for a like-minded acupuncturist looking to join an independent clinic.
An interest in providing affordable acupuncture and/or point injection services is preferred
Acupuncture is one of the oldest forms of medical practice in the world, only surpassed by herbal medicines and massage. At least 3,000 years old we have written records of around 2,000 years of continual practice including case notes from countless physicians. In the hands of a trained, registered acupuncturist, this therapy has proven to be a very safe, simple, effective and sometimes affordable treatment.
At it's simplest, acupuncture involves the insertion of thin needles into the body for a desired effect - specifically the treatment of pain or disease. Sometimes needles are inserted into locations just under the skin or directly into muscles and other tissues.
From the perspective of Traditional Chinese Medicine Acupuncture is used for two things - to move and to clear. Essentially the goal of acupuncture is to increase circulation and calm the nervous system. Needling into tight muscles is also a key therapy in releasing myofascial pain.
Good health in Chinese medicine is based on the health of the circulatory system. If someone looks fit but has a heart attack at age 40, their inner health is poorer than a 90 year old with no issues. By maintaining and targeting increased circulation we are improving function and health.
An acupuncture or other needling treatment that doesn't cause significant pain will help to relax the nervous system; calming the fight or flight response and engaging the rest and digest one. Parasympathetic stimulation has been shown to decrease inflammation to help treat systemic pain, increase peripheral circulation and restore normal function of respiratory, cardiovascular, reproductive and urinary systems
It's important to remember that the goal of Chinese Medicine is not to force results but to restore proper function. If your body has been in a state of disease for several years it can take several treatments to break that pattern and help create a new normal.
We would have a shorter answer to "What doesn't it treat?"
Because acupuncture has widespread effects in the body, it has a very broad application. By regulating the nervous system and increasing circulation to specific parts of the body we can improve function and overall health.
It's not magic though, after a course of around 6 treatments spread across 2-3 weeks or so we often see many acute conditions fully resolve. Chronic and severe conditions can take 10-12 treatments to get lasting results. Even then, completely treating the condition will still take time
Here's just a short list of what we regularly treat with acupuncture:
Acupuncture treatment in the private room costs $60 per treatment for around one hour, including preparation time.
For complete information on payment types we accept as well as insurance billing, please visit our section on payment types on the About the Clinic page.
Community Acupuncture if more regular care is needed to manage pain and other issues. This is also a good choice if you're coming for labour induction services as points on the abdomen and low back are not needled in late pregnancy.
Point Injection therapies are also done one on one often providing quicker results than standard acupuncture. These treatments are able to do things that acupuncture can't including freeing nerve entrapments and repairing tendons & ligaments.
At Nanaimo Acupuncture we will provide the most appropriate care for what is bothering you, often using several different forms of acupuncture as needed. Treatment often involves trigger & motor point stimulation, along the spine to treat the nerve supply for the muscle, near hands & feet to treat the sensory end of the nerve as well as other points chosen through Traditional Chinese Medicine diagnosis and experience.
