What is Community Acupuncture?

Community acupuncture is pretty much the same as acupuncture, just done for less money in a comfortable and safe group setting.

It's an excellent treatment for chronic pain and stress related conditions and also allows you to bring a friend with for treatment at the same time.

We understand that a lot of medical treatments can be very expensive and therefore difficult to afford and use. We need you to understand that no treatment will work if you don't follow the instructions, so this is the deal; we've made it affordable, you just need to use it until you feel better.

What does it do?

From the perspective of Traditional Chinese Medicine Acupuncture is used for two things - to move and to clear. Essentially the goal of acupuncture is to increase circulation and calm the nervous system. Needling into tight muscles is also a key therapy in releasing myofascial pain.

Good health in Chinese medicine is based on the health of the circulatory system. If someone looks fit but has a heart attack at age 40, their inner health is poorer than a 90 year old with no issues. By maintaining and targeting increased circulation we are improving function and health.

An acupuncture or other needling treatment that doesn't cause significant pain will help to relax the nervous system; calming the fight or flight response and engaging the rest and digest one. Parasympathetic stimulation has been shown to decrease inflammation to help treat systemic pain, increase peripheral circulation and restore normal function of respiratory, cardiovascular, reproductive and urinary systems

It's important to remember that the goal of Chinese Medicine is not to force results but to restore proper function. If your body has been in a state of disease for several years it can take several treatments to break that pattern and help create a new normal.

What does it treat?

We would have a shorter answer to "What doesn't it treat?"

Because acupuncture has widespread effects in the body, it has a very broad application. By regulating the nervous system and increasing circulation to specific parts of the body we can improve function and overall health.

It's not magic though, after a course of around 6 treatments spread across 2-3 weeks or so we often see many acute conditions fully resolve. Chronic and severe conditions can take 10-12 treatments to get lasting results. Even then, completely treating the condition will still take time

Here's just a short list of what we regularly treat with acupuncture:

  • Headache & Migraine

What does it cost?

Community acupuncture treatments are on a $20 - 40 sliding scale where you pay what you want. We want you to afford the care you need to get good results.

Treatments in the group room are more open ended than private room ones, if you want thirty minutes or two hours we'll do what we can to accommodate you and give you the space and time you need.

For complete information on payment types we accept as well as insurance billing, please visit our section on payment types on the About the Clinic page.

What are my other options?

Private appointments allow us to directly treat beyond arms and lower legs. The areas on the chest & abdomen or the back are not practical to treat in the group room for a variety of reasons. And sometimes these areas are necessary to treat for best results. At just $60, it's still more affordable than many other options.

Point injection treatments are certainly more expensive than community acupuncture, but since standard acupuncture treatment won't change physical structures in the body injections are often the only available treatment to correct them.
