What is Auricular Acupuncture?

These are acupuncture or acupressure treatments done on the ears. Much like reflexology, the body's structural and functional aspects are mapped out on the ears in specific locations. This is a relatively recent form of acupuncture and lends much of its development to neurologists and physicians in Europe looking for new ways to treat patients.

Ear seeds & magnets are also very useful for people who hate needles.

What does it do?

The vagus nerve is one of the largest in the body and plays a key role in the regulation of many systems. This nerve has a pivotal role in our parasympathetic (rest & digest) nervous system which has been show in many studies to have profound effects on our health.

Parasympathetic stimulation, even just from meditation, can help reduce chronic pain and anxiety, increase circulation, improve reproductive, respiratory and digestive function and several other benefits.

Ear tacks continuously stimulate points while seeds and magnets provide on demand treatment when stimulated - which helps a lot when trying to manage cravings.

What does it treat?

Ear treatments are excellent for mental & emotional health.
They play a key role in treating:

  • Stress
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • PTSD
  • Smoking/Addiction

What does it cost?

$20 - and the treatment often stays on for around a week, just come back weekly for new seeds or tacks and any adjustments to treatment as needed.

For complete information on payment types we accept as well as insurance billing, please visit our section on payment types on the About the Clinic page.

We are not able to direct bill for ear seeds of magnet treatments, all extended health plans require some form of actual needling in the treatment to allow billing for acupuncture. Acupressure is not a billable service in health plans that we've seen.

What are my other options?

We do ear points during standard and community acupuncture treatments as needed which does help with calming the nervous system, but the needles we use for these treatments don’t get to go home with you. And the effects tend to last around 2-3 days

The advantage of take home ear treatment is that it can stay on for around one week, with the ear tacks you only need to make sure the tape is sticking on and the seeds or magnets are a good focus to massage when you feel stressed or anxious. This on-demand treatment is very helpful for many people.
